Classic Palmiers
INGREDIENTS
1 sheet of LBA Puff Pastry Dough
1/2 cup granulated sugar
Optional: Cinnamon, chocolate spread, or other desired fillings
1/2 cup granulated sugar
Optional: Cinnamon, chocolate spread, or other desired fillings
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Sprinkle a clean work surface with a portion of the granulated sugar. Unfold the puff pastry sheet onto the sugar and sprinkle additional sugar evenly on top.
3. Roll out the puff pastry into a larger rectangle, about 1/4 inch (6 mm) thick. Sprinkle more sugar over the top surface if desired, along with any optional fillings like cinnamon or chocolate spread.
4. Starting from one long side, tightly roll the puff pastry toward the center, creating a long log. Repeat the same process starting from the opposite side, until the two rolls meet in the center.
5. Carefully slice the rolled puff pastry into 1/2 inch (1.2 cm) thick slices, resembling palm leaves. Lay each slice flat on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches (5 cm) apart.
6. Lightly press down on each palmier slice with the palm of your hand to slightly flatten them.
7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes, or until the palmiers turn golden brown and crispy. Keep a close eye on them to prevent burning.
8. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the palmiers to cool on a wire rack. The sugar on the bottom will caramelize and create a sweet, crunchy bottom layer.
9. Once completely cooled, serve and enjoy these delightful homemade palmiers! They can be stored in an airtight container for a few days.
Palmiers are versatile, and you can experiment with different fillings like Nutella, crushed nuts, or even savory options like cheese and herbs. Feel free to get creative and enjoy these delicious treats!
